FP2030, the global partnership committed to advancing voluntary, rights-based family planning, recognizes that today’s generation of young people is the largest in history. With nearly half the world’s population under 25, their health, rights, and choices will define the trajectory of communities and nations for decades to come.

The FP2030 Youth Wave unites over 400 youth activists in Latin America and embodies FP2030’s promise to ensure that adolescents and youth are not just beneficiaries of programs, but decision-makers and co-creators in building solutions that reflect their realities. It’s a call to action to governments, organizations, and communities: meaningful youth participation is not optional, it’s essential.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, the FP2030 LAC Hub has created a vibrant digital community reaching over 120,000 young people every month with accessible, rights-based information on sexual and reproductive health. Additionally, the FP2030 Youth Wave hosts bi-monthly dialogues to strengthen SRHR knowledge and advocacy skills for these youth activists.

These spaces don’t just build leadership, they nurture belonging. As Nazareth, a Youth Wave member from Honduras, beautifully described: “Collectively, at the Youth Wave, we are working to improve the living conditions of our communities. Together, we bloom and grow. I feel happy because I feel safe in this space, being able to speak freely and share our opinions.”  Her words capture the essence of the Youth Wave: a space where young people feel seen, safe, and inspired to take action.

What makes the FP2030 Youth Wave truly powerful is its belief in shared leadership. Young people are not waiting to be invited to the table; they are building their own. Whether it’s a rural health promoter in Guatemala using digital storytelling to talk about consent, or a young researcher in Colombia pushing for better data on adolescent needs, this wave is made up of thousands of individual ripples that, together, are changing the tide.

As FP2030 looks toward 2030, the Youth Wave stands as both a movement and a promise: that every young person, regardless of where they live, can grow up with the freedom, information, and support to decide their own future. Because empowering youth isn’t just about expanding access to family planning. It’s about building a world where choice becomes power, and power becomes progress we strive for together.
